History

The Art of Good Taste is the premier fundraising event for the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art. Held each spring, The Art of Good Taste events were created in the late 1980s as a biannual event, and for the last 15 years, has a prominent annual wine auction in the Mid-South region.

Growing from a single wine auction to a series of seven events that attracts national attention, The Art of Good Taste now includes the Fleming’s Wine Dinner, an annual spirit tasting, an artists’ reception, Brooks Uncorked, the Patrons Dinner, the Grand Auction, and a champagne brunch on Mother’s Day. In addition, the series now includes an entry-level wine tasting class called Warm Up to Wine, held at the museum three times a year.

Each year, The Art of Good Taste events boast three live auctions, three silent auctions, two elegant wine dinners, and more than 25 exclusive wine tastings and dinners across the city throughout the year.

Since the early 1990s, The Art of Good Taste has contributed more than $1.4 million in net revenue to the Brooks. Unique to the Brooks wine auction is the expense to revenue ratio; we are proud to direct more than 70 percent of all monies raised from these events back into programming and museum operations.
